Apple today released a new firmware update for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The release is a minor one, fixing bugs rather than adding any substantial features, Key among the changes is the better battery meter accuracy for the iPhone 3GS, addressing a long-standing complaint. Also fixed the crashes when using Japanese Kana keyboard, and a problem preventing third-party apps from launching.

Watch a movie on the iPad won’t be as pleasurable as you might think. The screen not only is not at least 720p like should be in a modern portable 9” device, is 1024×768 pixels, that means that has a ratio 4:3, exactly as my old CRT television. Most of the movies, tv shows, musical videos are with an aspect 16:9, witch use DVD and now HDTV.

Following the iPad announcement and Apple’s preview of several new apps for the tablet device, Delicious Monster developer Wil Shipley noticed an uncanny resemblance between the iBooks app and his Mac software, Delicious Library. During the iPad unveiling, Shipley published several tweets claiming that Apple had not obtained permission to use the interface, which places book covers on virtual shelves that appear to be made of wood.
“No, Apple didn’t license iBooks from me,” Shipley said. “They just copied me. Ah well.”

Analysts have already begun adjusting their predictions and impressions regarding Apple’s new iPad tablet, with the research group IDC anticipating worldwide sales of four million units this year. The group believes Apple may sell two million iPads just in the US market this year, with sales accelerating as the device gains momentum in the near future.

Put this down as something else rumored that’s come to fruition today. Apple’s just announced iBooks, an e-reader app and bookstore (called iBookstore) for the iPad, using the ePub format. We’re seeing prices around $12.99 to $14.99 so far… looks pretty slick! We’re sure Jeff Bezos and Co. are none too pleased to see this one, but we’ll have to see for ourselves what reading’s like on a non-E Ink screen.
